Having lasted for several months, the world is keenly aware of the impact that the military conflict with Russia has had on Ukraine. Among the many losses to social structures and life sustaining systems in Ukraine, the conflict has affected the ability for radiologists and medical professionals to maintain their Continuing Professional Development (CPD), especially as it applies to emergency and trauma imaging. Aiming to provide aid to these professionals as the situation continues, the Canadian Emergency, Trauma, and Acute Care Radiology Society (CETARS) has set up a series of educational webinars focusing on all aspects of emergency and trauma care imaging, using a head-to-toe approach. The relationship between patient, radiologist, and primary care physician is critical when determining the best course of action for diagnostic imaging. Clinical Decision Support (CDS) systems can better facilitate the exchange of information in this relationship to ensure patients receive the test they need in the time they need it.

Statement on Iodinated Contrast Media Shortage
The Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) is aware of the global shortage of iodinated contrast media (ICM). The CAR has been monitoring the situation at a national level with both our radiologist members and industry partners. In addition, the CAR has met with Health Canada to gain a better understanding of its efforts to monitor and respond to the shortage, and we have made an outreach to the federal Minister of Health to request a coordinated national response and public statement on this issue.
The following statement provides updated information for the Canadian medical imaging community about Health Canada’s mechanisms to monitor the shortage, and the efforts of manufacturers to mitigate the risk to Canadian patients. Additionally, it summarizes risk mitigation strategies relevant to this and any future shortages of ICM. Read More
Insights on Leading Ergonomic Improvement in Radiology Workstations
Have you ever felt soreness or discomfort after spending hours at your workstation? Instead of enhancing the work of a radiologist or trainee, workstations are often the cause of musculoskeletal discomfort that can quickly inflame injury or lead to burnout. Dr. Charlotte Yong-Hing led a national ergonomics survey and presented the results during a plenary session at CAR 2022's Trainee Day. Dr. Yong-Hing believes that making knowledge of proper ergonomics more common in the radiology community will have a positive impact, improving the well-being and productivity of radiologists and trainees.
