President's Message

It is both an honour and a privilege to serve as the new President of the Canadian Emergency, Trauma, and Acute Care Radiology Society (CETARS). I am deeply grateful to Past-Presidents Drs. Savvas Nicolaou and Michael Patlas for their visionary leadership, which has helped the CETARS grow into a leading force in emergency and trauma imaging.

As a radiologist specializing in trauma imaging, I am passionate about advancing cutting-edge imaging techniques to improve the care of critically ill and injured patients. The CETARS has already achieved remarkable progress, and I am excited to continue this momentum by fostering innovation, research, and education within our community.

The field of imaging is rapidly evolving, and its impact on improving patient outcomes cannot be overstated. I am committed to ensuring that the CETARS remains a leader in the field, promoting collaboration and inclusivity across Canada and beyond.

I am fortunate to work alongside our talented and dedicated executive committee. Together, we will continue to build a strong network, share knowledge, and shape the future of emergency and trauma imaging, ultimately making a lasting impact on patient care worldwide.

Award

Medal of Excellence Award

2025 - Dr. Adnan Sheikh

The Medal of Excellence Award represents the highest honor within the purview of the Canadian Emergency, Trauma and Acute Care Radiology Society (CETARS) to bestow to a CETARS member. The CETARS Medal of Excellence Award will be granted by CETARS to a radiologist in recognition of distinguished and extraordinary service to the discipline of Emergency, Trauma, and acute radiology.

Radiology services may encompass teaching, basic research, clinical investigation, advocacy or mentoring. Research must demonstrate quality and consistency through publication in recognized professional journals. Service to the CETARS can be outstanding contributions to the CAR and the CETARS, other medical organizations, or government agencies.

CETARS is not obligated to present the award annually. It will be given to a deserving candidate with an exceptional record of excellence. The award will only be given when there is a suitable candidate.

Eligibility

2024 - Dr. Michael Patlas

The Medal of Excellence Award nominee must be an individual member in good standing of the CAR continuously over the past five years and a current active CETARS member.

Nomination Process

Nominations must be received by any CETARS member in good standing and include:

  • One letter of support for the nominee who must be a CAR and CETARS member in good standing
  • A statement by the nominator of the major contributions of the nominee
  • A curriculum vitae for the nominee

The award nomination call-out will be in September and must be submitted annually by December 15 to [email protected]. An individual member may nominate or sponsor only one nominee each year.

Review and Adjudication

The CETARS award selection standing committee will evaluate and choose the recipient by consensus from among the nominations.

If unsuccessful in the first year, the nomination may be reactivated by any CETARS member in good standing for consideration for a maximum of two (2) years following the first submission. This can be done by submitting a letter requesting reactivation by December 15th of the subsequent year. This reactivation does not require any new supporting data.
