He built his career around practice at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. Dr. Jaremko is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. He is a graduate of the University of Calgary where he competed a B.Sc. in Engineering (1996) and a combined MD- PhD (2003). Following his training in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Alberta (2008), he took the unusual step of pursuing two separate and independent fellowships at prestigious institutions in Pediatric Radiology at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne Australia (2010) and in Musculoskeletal Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University (2011). The CAR was saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. William (Bill) Mason, on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. During his illustrious career, he served in executive capacities on numerous medical boards in Canada, was President of the CAR from 1995 to 1997, and Vice President of the Canadian Radiological Foundation in 2010. My colleagues and I are sad to record the death of Conway Don, a long standing member of the Canadian Association of Radiologists and its 2000 Gold Medalist. Dr. Don served as the first Professor and Chairman of the Department of Radiology at the University of Ottawa, and as Department Head at the Ottawa General  Hospital from 1958 to 1988. Read More

On November 6-7, members of the CAR were on Parliament Hill to celebrate International Day of Radiology and pay tribute to the work being done by their colleagues across Canada. This year, building upon the success of the last year's CAR Day on the Hill, the event has grown to encompass two days of advocacy and awareness-raising about the value of radiology and the importance of imaging for patient care. Dr. Raquel Z. delCarpio-O'Donovan will be receiving the prestigious Albert-Jutras Prize during the 54th Annual Congress of the Société de Radiologie du Québec in November 2017 in Montreal. Albert Jutras was one of the pioneers of radiology in Quebec and his reputation has spread beyond our borders. This award recognizes and highlights the remarkable career of a radiologist working in a community hospital, academic or otherwise, in radiology or related fields. Read More

Meetings with senior policymakers

On Thursday August 24, Dr. Mike Barry, Vice-President of the CAR met with senior officials in Ottawa regarding the proposed changes to tax structures for Canadian-controlled private corporations (CCPCs) – changes which will impact many CAR members and other physicians across Canada. Representing incorporated radiologists, Dr. Barry met with policymakers at the Canada Revenue Agency, senior Conservative party policy officials at the Office of the Loyal Opposition and with Mr. Justin To, Deputy Director of Policy at the Prime Minister’s Office. Dr. Mike Barry met with Deputy Director of Poilicy at the Prime Minster's Office to discuss proposed tax changes. Read More
