While Canada comparatively lags in implementing Clinical Decision Support (CDS) systems into hospital workflows at a national level, the CAR is currently working with a handful of strategic partners like Choosing Wisely Canada on constructing guidelines to support their implementation in institutions across Canada. Even before our referrals program, CAR members have done the extra work to make referrals better. An example of this commitment to positive change is Dr. Steve Herman. CAR President, Dr. Gilles Soulez Shares Highlights From his Inaugural Year as CAR President The pandemic has presented many challenges for the radiology community. COVID has not only changed our practices but also added to the extensive waitlists experienced by patients for medical imaging. Even with procedures returning to more than 80% capacity in most jurisdictions, pandemic protocols, while necessary, have added to the time it takes to complete medical imaging tests. The shortage of human resources is another significant factor limiting our productivity across the country. As a result, patients are now waiting even longer than before, creating a desperate situation for imaging in Canada. Under the leadership of the Board of Directors, the CAR has demonstrated resiliency and leadership during this difficult time, emerging stronger as one of the leading specialty societies in the pandemic response. In late November 2021, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) returned to Chicago to host their annual meeting and it was a success. In 2020 the RSNA opted to cancel the in-person component of their annual meeting, offering an exclusively virtual event. This was done for safety reasons and to minimize the spread of COVID.  This year with most of the [physician] population having been vaccinated, the RSNA felt it was safe to return to in-person networking, while also offering a virtual component.
