After expressing support earlier this year for the landmark international resolution, Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity, the CAR is thrilled to learn of its adoption at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) from May 19-27 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The resolution prioritizes sustainably funding and procuring medical equipment, training the healthcare workforce, implementing quality improvement programs, and more.
Ahead of WHA78, the CAR urged officials at Health Canada and Global Affairs Canada to support the resolution in a formal letter and offered radiology expertise from the Canadian healthcare perspective as they prepared for discussions with the World Health Organization (WHO).

“This is an incredible development that we are truly proud to see take effect,” said CAR CEO Nick Neuheimer. “Access to medical imaging is a critical priority for us in Canada, so it stands to reason that we, as a national society, would champion an initiative that aims to increase medical imaging access around the world.”
The CAR collaborated with the International Society of Radiology and other international radiological societies to express support for the resolution, highlighting the importance of addressing healthcare challenges that extend beyond borders.
This advocacy represents the CAR’s commitment to health equity and vital access to imaging for patients globally, as well as advancing the field of medical imaging internationally.
