A CAR member in Toronto is being honoured by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) for his impact on radiology education. Dr. Satheesh Krishna will receive the RSNA Rising Star Award at RSNA 2024.
The prestigious award is given annually to radiologists in the early stages of their careers and who make an impact in radiology education and innovation.
“Receiving the RSNA Rising Star award is truly an honor. It’s both humbling and motivating,” said Dr. Krishna. “It reflects the support of colleagues and mentors who’ve inspired and encouraged me, and it reaffirms my commitment and love for radiology. It is a milestone and a friendly reminder that this is just the beginning of an amazing adventure, and the best is yet to come.”

While still early in his career, Dr. Krishna says he has already been a part of several important and memorable projects.
“One of the most meaningful has been developing the Bosniak Classification Calculator, now widely used in over 150 countries, which helps radiologists better assess complex renal cysts,” he recalled. “Additionally, I host a podcast called Radiologists which is now available on YouTube, Apple, and Spotify, in which we engage in entertaining conversations with guests on a variety of behind-the-scenes topics in radiology. Projects like these, which allow me to blend technology with clinical insights, and off the beaten path, is something I’m passionate about.”
In medical education and research, everyone needs to have an impactful mentor to help them make their way, and Dr. Krishna has been aided by many great minds.
“I stand on the shoulders of giants. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had incredible mentors help me in my journey. I am also indebted to all my residents and fellows who challenge me and force me to up my game every day.”
For those who are interested in becoming involved in radiology education, Dr. Krishna encourages curiosity and being open to lifelong learning.
“Radiology is ever evolving, and staying engaged with new technologies, like AI, and collaborating across disciplines are essential. Most importantly, daring to do things differently and carving your own path based on your own vision and passion makes the journey enjoyable. I'd say be curious, be bold, be different.”
The CAR is proud to congratulate Dr. Krishna on receiving this award and is looking forward to more of his great work in the future.
