The Canadian Society of Abdominal Radiology (CSAR) is one of CAR’s four Affiliate Societies whose focus is on the subspecialty of abdominal radiology. CSAR provides the opportunity for close collaboration on education, research, and advocacy activities within the radiology community. Working together, we deliver the most value for members while maintaining distinct mandates. CSAR officially joined as a CAR affiliate on November 6, 2020, after the inaugural meeting of their Executive Committee.
Mission
The Canadian Society of Abdominal Radiology (CSAR) is a network of Canadian radiologists with an interest in abdominal radiology. The society strives to encourage educational, research and administrative connections to maintain the highest standards of abdominal radiology across Canada.
Vision
A national community of practice for abdominal radiology that comes together to guide patient care, education, and research.
The role of CSAR:
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of abdominal disease.
- Provide access to medical education in the practice of abdominal radiology for trainees and practicing radiologists.
- Promote excellence in research and best practices in abdominal radiology.
- Play a leadership role in the development/update of abdominal imaging guidelines, standards, and appropriateness criteria.
- Foster an interest in abdominal radiology by providing mentorship opportunities and by development of a sub-speciality curriculum at the annual CAR ASM.

- Play a leadership role in the development of abdominal imaging guidelines, standards, and referral criteria including to development of a paper on the use of prostate MRI for the screening and diagnosis of prostate cancer.
- Development of a sub-specialty curriculum at the CAR’s 2022 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) as part of their continuing medical education activities

Join CSAR!
CSAR is currently seeking new members to join this new CAR affiliate society. Membership is open to abdominal radiologists, other subspecialty radiologists, general radiologists, and as well as current fellows, residents, and medical students with an interest in abdominal radiology and who are current members of the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR).

CSAR is seeking a resident representative to join their Executive Team. The criteria is as follows:
- Candidates entering PGY-3 at the time of application
- Application Deadline: August 20, 2021
- Term: October 2021 – two (2) years
- Requirements: Interested applicants can submit their CV and a brief statement of interest (max 300 words)
