With the evolving COVID-19 situation, many conferences have and are being cancelled. We acknowledge and understand that many of the medical professionals affected may not have access to the required continuing professional development (CPD) credits to maintain the MAP approved status in the coming months.
MAP will be extending all radiologists and medical radiation technologists personal CPD cycles by 6-months. In six months time, we will reassess the situation and take the necessary steps to ensure that no one is adversely affected, while also ensuring the quality standards MAP are not impacted.
Further, many mammography units will be unable to get a medical physicist’s inspection. Until such time that medical physicists can freely travel, we advise contacting your regular medical physicist to remotely review your routine QC results on a quarterly basis.
We also recognize that mammography volumes can be expected to decrease in the coming months. The interpretive volumes reported by radiologists in 2021 will likely be affected. We will be allowing a grace period for radiologists’ interpretive volumes dependent on facility volumes being reported.
Finally, if volumes in the coming months do decrease and image selection is problematic for units undergoing re-accreditation, please contact us.
We thank you all of you for your support and efforts on the front lines of healthcare given these stressful times. It is our goal to support you and to ensure that the quality standards the MAP has had in place over the last 20 years are maintained.
For any questions or concerns please reach out to the MAP team.
