For the last several years the CAR Board of Directors has been actively involved in meeting with MPs and senior political staff to raise awareness for the deficit in medical imaging equipment and health human resources. Further, we have been advocating for the adoption of advanced technologies and the implementation of a clinical decision support (CDS) system that will help ensure timely access to medical imaging for Canadians.
We have had some small wins; however, our aim is to have the federal government commit to investing $1.5 billion in medical imaging equipment over 5 years and to take a leadership role in AI and CDS. We need your support. There is strength in numbers and the more people we have invested in the cause, we believe – the more successful we will be.
In early August the CAR published our 2022 Pre-Budget Submission. This has been provided to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance and we are hopeful to have an opportunity to participate in the budget consultations occurring this fall.
As a member of the Parliamentary Outreach team, you will be provided with all the tools and resources you need to engage with local government. We will also provide regular updates and environmental scans of the political landscape. Those who have the greatest visibility will be invited to participate in our annual in Ottawa this fall. We encourage you to get involved and sign up today.
“As radiologists, we have a responsibility to be community leaders and to represent our patients at the regional level. Better access to medical imaging through increased equipment, more health human resources, and the implementation of innovation, will improve patient outcomes and result in significant cost savings to the economy at large. Coming out of a global pandemic, now more than ever we need to step up and take action. Meet with your MPs, advocate within your institutions and speak to the value of radiology in healthcare. United, we are stronger.” – Dr. Mike Barry, Past-President, CAR
