Honouring Dedication to the Field of Radiology – CAR 2025 Awards

April 25, 2025

Moving radiology forward takes immense dedication from amazing individuals who deserve recognition. The CAR 2025 Awards, hosted by MD Financial Management/Scotiabank, were presented to members who have made incredible contributions to the profession and improving patient care.

The CAR takes great pleasure in acknowledging the following award winners.

Gold Medal Award

Dr. Michael Patlas

Professor and Chair, Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto

Credit JULIAN HABER-20250405-CAR25-0264

This medal is presented to a long-time member of the CAR who has made outstanding contributions to the Association as well as to the profession of radiology in Canada. It is the CAR’s highest honour.

“I am honoured and humbled to receive the Gold Medal Award from the Canadian Association of Radiologists. I have been fortunate to collaborate with the CAR for over two decades and held multiple leadership positions including Abstract Chair, Program Chair, and Editor-in-Chief of the CARJ. It was an exciting journey which allowed me to meet many radiologists across the country who became lifelong friends and mentor numerous trainees. I encourage younger colleagues to volunteer for the CAR.”

Distinguished Career Achievement Award

Dr. Vincent Oliva

The CAR Distinguished Career Achievement Award is presented to honour individuals who, over the course of their career, have made very significant contributions to radiology in Canada.

“I am deeply honored to receive the distinguished career award. Words cannot express how thankful I am to the CAR who has shown incredible leadership to promote radiology in Canada and abroad.”

Investigator Award

Dr. Satheesh Krishna Jeyaraj

Associate Professor, Director of Abdominal and Pelvic CT, University of Toronto

This award is presented to a CAR member in the early stages of their career and recognizes exceptional contributions to medical imaging-related research.

“Receiving the CAR Investigator Award is a tremendous honor, and one that truly humbles me. Research has always been a wild mix of curiosity, chaos, and copious amounts of caffeine. It means chasing questions that don’t have easy answers – and sometimes, answers that lead to even bigger questions. This recognition doesn’t mark the end of that journey, it lights the path forward. I’m deeply grateful, incredibly energized, and more excited than ever. There’s still so much to uncover, and the best is always yet to come.”

2025 Fellows of the CAR

The Fellowship of the Canadian Association of Radiology (FCAR) is one of the highest honours that the CAR can bestow upon its members. Recognition as a Fellow of the CAR demonstrates a history of service to the CAR as a volunteer in collaboration and leadership, as well as clinical, scientific, and professional accomplishments.

Congratulations to the 2025 Fellows of the CAR:

Sheila Appavoo
Carl Chartrand-Lefebvre
Derek Emery
Alison Harris
Vincent Oliva
Grant Stoneham
