The CAR’s dedicated day of virtual education for trainees saw a major boost in attendance this year.
The 2025 Virtual Trainee Day took place online on Tuesday, February 11 and had more than 160 participants.

“The event was a big success,” said Dr. Kathleen MacMillan, who was co-chair and a moderator for Virtual Trainee Day. “I debriefed with the Resident and Fellows Section (RFS) after the event and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. I also received several texts from residents across Canada expressing their great feedback about the event. We are very proud of the work we put in this year and are thankful to our amazing speakers for helping to make it happen.”
Fellow co-chair and moderator Dr. Karl Narvacan says he felt the same positivity from participants throughout the day.
“Even towards the end of a long day, the Junior and Senior Hot Seat sessions were packed with residents eager to go through interesting cases from all over the country. Given that this was essentially a whole-day event, the level of enthusiasm and participation from attendees was remarkable. The staff radiologist presenters found the event well organized, thanks to the fantastic CAR staff working behind the scenes. We are very proud of our work and had fun planning the event.”
One of the major changes to Virtual Trainee Day this year was the decision to move the event away from the CAR Annual Scientific Meeting, choosing instead to host the event in February and give it its own day to better accommodate the busy academic schedules of participants. The theme for this year was also a new development. Dr. MacMillan says the planning committee is taking a different approach to selecting the theme.
“The RFS selected the MSK theme through a vote, while in the past, the RFS Chair and Scientific Planning Committee lead would select the topic independently. We have asked participants via our post-event survey to recommend themes for next year. In this way, we hope to hear from other residents which themes they would like to see in future years. I think our changes were positive overall, and the RFS is excited to continue leading this event in future years.”
Congratulations to everyone involved on a successful Virtual Trainee Day!
