Canada Meets ECR: Canada Takes Centre Stage in Europe

February 23, 2023

With the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) only a few days away, anticipation is starting to build for the Canada Meets ECR session. On March 4, Canadian radiology leaders will gather in Vienna, Austria to share an overview of radiology in Canada.

Hosted by the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the ECR is one of the largest annual medical meetings in Europe and the second-largest radiological meeting for radiology professionals, radiographers, physicists, and industry members in the world. The event is being held from March 1-5 at the traditional Austria Center.

Canada was invited as one of three countries to be showcased at this event. The CAR has put together an exciting lineup of speakers for our Canadian themed track on Saturday, March 4 entitled Canada Meets the ECR. The program will focus on the Canadian healthcare landscape, the comparison between clinical and academic radiology, and a panel discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI). We are putting forward the best and brightest that Canada has to offer by featuring some of our most influential radiology leaders.

The format will consist of three lectures followed by a panel discussion. Sessions will be led by Dr. Michael Patlas, Editor-in-Chief of the CAR Journal, Dr. Heidi Schmidt, CAR Ontario Board Member, and Dr. Gilles Soulez, CAR President. Dr. Jaron Chong, Chair of the CAR’s AI Standing Committee, will be the primary spokesperson for the panel discussion and will seek input from his colleagues listed above. The session will be moderated by Nick Neuheimer, CEO, CAR.

The CAR will have great visibility at this event. There will be a customized booth at the entrance of the conference centre with a shared lounge between the three different host countries including Romania and Ireland. We have partnered with the Canadian Embassy/Trade Commissioner’s Office in Vienna to offer a truly Canadian experience throughout the ECR meeting. Worth special mention is the exclusive Canadian Reception at the Canadian Ambassador’s Residence on Thursday, March 2. This is by invitation only and will be geared towards Canadian radiologists and Canadian medical imaging industry representatives.

“We will discuss with international leaders the vision for radiology and how to shape the future to develop best practices in medical imaging and promote the value of radiology. This another step to increase our international visibility and exchange important information to promote excellence in imaging care.”

“I am excited to be a part of ECR 2023 and to explore the possibilities of AI in radiology. The CAR AI Standing Committee has been at the forefront of thought leadership in this rapidly changing frontier of practice and strives to balance the tremendous innovative potential with our professional and clinical responsibilities to quality of care and safety for patients. As Chair of the committee, I am confident that through collaboration with our international colleagues and industry, we can develop best practices for incorporating AI into radiology workflows, which benefits the field of radiology as a whole and ultimately improves patient outcomes.”
