Full Capacity for the Emergency Radiology Workshop
Thursday, April 11 featured a day-long workshop focused on emergency radiology that was completely sold out. Mastering ER Radiology: Accurate Diagnoses and Timely Decision-Making was the first ever workshop to reach its maximum capacity with 50 participants taking part. Experts provided dedicated training sessions that simulated real-case reporting. Speakers included the Canadian Society of Skeletal Radiology (CSSR) President Dr. Viviane Khoury discussing MSK Ultrasound, the Canadian Society of Abdominal Radiology (CSAR) President Dr. Tanya Chawla’s examination of the Lower Quadrants, the Canadian Society of Thoracic Radiology (CSTR) President Dr. Elsie Nguyen detailing the pearls and pitfalls of cardiovascular imaging, and so many more.
Learning Over Lunch: Two Accredited Symposia
Thanks to unrestricted education grants from Bayer and Boehringer Ingelheim, CAR 2024 participants were treated to a meal while learning from subject matter experts. The Accredited Symposium Fibrotic and Non-Fibrotic Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILD): Unravelling Patterns and Challenging Cases took place on Friday, April 12 and was supported by Boehringer Ingelheim. The session featured speakers Dr. Scott Adams, Dr. Jessie Kang, and Dr. Carolina Souza. Lunch was served once again the following day during the Accredited Symposium Advancements in Imaging Modalities and Diagnostic Strategies for Endometriosis, which was supported by Bayer. Dr. Basma Al-Arnawoot, Dr. Simon Gauvin, and Dr. Mathew Leonardi provided their expert insights.
Making Investments in the Future of Radiology
The Canadian Radiological Foundation (CRF) had a very successful meeting and reached $10,500 in donations, thanks to the generous support of CAR 2024 attendees. The CRF supports excellence in radiology through research, grants, and education. At CAR 2024, during the Radiology Awards, the CRF celebrated their most recent grant winners, increased their donation total for research, and welcomed several new members of the 500 Club.
The Importance of Getting Together
Delegates shared that the biggest improvement from previous Annual Scientific Meetings was the longer breaks and additional networking events. The Welcome Reception, and its Montréal themed menu of smoked meat sandwiches and poutine, was an exciting start to the social events of the meeting, generously supported by Hologic. The CAR's corporate partners were the featured supporters at the Vendor Cocktail. The Radiologist-in-Training Reception was a major highlight, supported by GE HealthCare, as was the newly added Vendor Appreciation Social on Saturday afternoon.
Attendees were able to connect digitally as well, by engaging with the CAR 2024 event app. Discussion groups were created for different subspecialties, social topics, and to engage with CAR 2024 Ambassador Dr. Emil Lee. The Leaderboard contest engaged everyone’s competitive side, where participants could collect Game Codes to gain points for amazing prizes. Congratulations to the winners Ruan Bedeir (1st Place), Milad Hamwi (2nd Place), and Jessica Matschek (3rd Place).
For those looking to get more involved in their subspecialty, each of the Affiliate Societies held their own Business and Networking Meetings to discuss current projects, present awards, and meet prospective members. They were also featured during the Vendor Cocktail, with the opportunity for attendees to meet and talk with the Executives of each society, as well as the chance to earn leaderboard points. On the evening of Aprill 11, the Affiliate Societies came together for a Networking Dinner at Pangea.
