This past summer CAR Board of Directors Member and Chair of the Resident Working Group, Lindsay Cherpak and the CAR staff met with the Prime Minister’s senior policy staff to discuss the value of radiology and to ask the government to take a leadership role in Clinical Decision Support, Artificial Intelligence and to lead a pan-Canadian strategy on modernizing medical imaging equipment across the country.
The CAR also met with the Public Health Agency of Canada in late August to discuss the value of radiology in improving health outcomes for Canadians. During the discussion, we had the opportunity to highlight our pre-budget submission priorities, as well as elaborate on the need for a federal strategy for access to modern medical imaging equipment. Other key items discussed include the Tuberculosis Strategy for Inuit communities, the benefit that radiology offers in diagnosis and treating the disease, referral guidelines and the need for more appropriate medical imaging in Canada.
At the CAR Board Meeting on September 28th, the CAR will welcome MP and Shadow Health Minister, Marilyn Gladu, to speak to the board about healthcare priorities in Canada. Senator Art Eggleton will also attend the meeting to discuss the federal government’s focus on AI and how it relates to radiology. Meeting with these officials will provide insight into the government’s next steps and help the CAR to form our key discussion points for future meetings with political representatives as well as the CAR’s Day on the Hill, on November 5th.
