Although he has not been in practice for several years now, Dr. T. Chen Fong remains one of the most respected figures in Canadian radiology. He built his career around practice at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. Locally, he was well known for his industry, acumen, affability, and talent for sharing his knowledge with those around him. Rising to become head of the department, he became known nationally as a leader in diagnostic radiology, eventually chairing the Examination Board of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He was recognized for his contributions to the profession by fellowship in the American College of Radiology.
He remains active in the imaging business as an innovator and entrepreneur. Further, he contributes significantly to the Department of Radiology, the Cumming School of Medicine, the University of Calgary, and the citizens of Calgary and beyond through his unrelenting philanthropic activity. His investment in the educational and health care enterprise in Calgary will continue to bear fruit for future generations.
In recognition of these accomplishments, Dr. Chen Fong was awarded the Order of Canada – one of the highest civilian honours in Canada – by the Right Honorable David Johnston, (former) Governor General of Canada.
I am honored and pleased to share this exciting news. I believe it is a fitting tribute to an outstanding individual and member of our Canadian radiological community.
