On April 27, the CAR Affiliate Societies met during the CAR 2023 in Montréal and are thrilled to announce their successful presidency exchanges. There are new Presidents and Vice-Presidents for the CETARS, the CSAR, and the CSTR. The CAR would like to take this opportunity to introduce them.
Dr. Michael Patlas will assume the role of President for the CETARS, with Dr. Adnan Sheikh serving as Vice-President
“It is a tremendous honour to lead the Canadian Emergency, Trauma and Acute Care Radiology Society. With two decades of experience practicing Emergency Radiology in both academic and community settings, I am eager to use my knowledge and expertise to help the society move forward.
Given the post-pandemic challenges that included skyrocketing volumes of visits to Emergency Departments across the country, the society will focus on providing world-class emergency radiology education for CAR members, advocate for new CT and MR scanners for emergency departments and create new national emergency radiology guidelines to advance the field with innovative research and the highest standards of patient care.
We have an incredible opportunity to shape the future of emergency radiology and I am proud to be part of this endeavor. I look forward to building on the amazing work of our predecessors and making a lasting impact on the field. I encourage colleagues across the county to support the CETARS and the CAR.”
Dr. Tanya Chawla will assume the role of President for the CSAR with Dr. Iain Kirkpatrick serving as Vice-President
“I am thrilled to be the new President of the Canadian Society of Abdominal Radiology. The society was the brainchild of Drs. Silvia Chang and Nicola Schieda and has grown from strength to strength since its inception.
I am an abdominal imager at the University of Toronto and have sub-specialty interests in gynaecologic and GI imaging. I bring great enthusiasm to my role and have a clear vision of where we are headed in order to stay at the forefront of abdominal imaging.
We are blessed with incredible talent in Canadian radiology and there is a real opportunity for us to liaise and network to create a nucleus of research and educational activities as well as to provide guidance and evidence-based guidelines to general imagers. I am excited to be part of an initiative that unites so many likeminded radiologists across the country irrespective of their level of experience.”
Dr. Elsie Nguyen will assume the role of President for the CSTR with Dr. Cameron Hague as Vice-President
“I am extremely excited to take on the position of the CSTR President. I follow in the footsteps of previous presidents who are exemplary leaders – Drs. Daria Manos and Carole Dennie. These two luminaries have inspired, mentored, sponsored, and coached me.
As Vice-Chair of Support, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity at the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto, I bring a new lens to this role. I hope to incorporate the concepts of EDI, promote wellness, address issues of sustainability in medical imaging, and help lead projects that will make medical imaging greener in our future CSTR projects.
I am most excited to meet new people, collaborate and learn from them. I believe people are our greatest resource. I am excited to build great working relationships with cardiothoracic radiologists and trainees across Canada and to further our field of cardiothoracic imaging, promote education and research and guide best practices. Together we are stronger!”
The CAR would like to extend a warm welcome to the incoming Presidents and Vice-Presidents, and we look forward to working with them to achieve the goals and advance the mission of each Affiliate Society.
We also want to take this opportunity to thank and express our gratitude to the former presidents who will assume the Past-President role for each Affiliate Society: Drs. Savvas Nicolaou (CETARS), Silvia Chang (CSAR), Daria Manos (CSTR) for their leadership, dedication, hard work, and contributions.
Please join us in congratulating and welcoming the new Presidents and Vice-Presidents of CETARS, CSAR, and CSTR!
