Musculoskeletal Imaging Radiologist Department of Diagnostic Radiology Queen’s Health Sciences, Queen’s University Permanent Full-Time Academic Position

WHO SHOULD APPLY? The Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Queen's University invites applications for the position of a Musculoskeletal Imaging Radiologist. This role and the successful incumbent’s time will be heavily focused on clinical service in the field of Musculoskeletal Radiology.

The successful incumbent will be expected to have a background in basic science and/or clinical research and fellowship training in MSK Radiology. Interest in advanced MR imaging techniques with 3T is also considered an asset.

With the academic component of this position, there is an expectation of participation in undergraduate medical education, residency training, and faculty level research.

Diagnostic Radiology at Queen’s is recognized for providing high quality care and is closely integrated with the Cancer Centre of Southeast Ontario and Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) through multidisciplinary conferences as well as collaborative clinical and research initiatives. The Department is engaged in diverse educational activities through the teaching of medical students and residents. Candidates must demonstrate a strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions.

Clinical responsibilities would include interpretation of MSK plain X-rays, CT, ultrasound, MRI, and performance of MSK procedures including fluoroscopic/ultrasound/ CT guided biopsies and injections, and spinal procedures. Participation in the Department body on-call schedule would also be required.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification in Diagnostic Radiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Applicants must also possess expertise, training, and experience in Musculoskeletal Radiology. FULL-TIME ACADEMIC ABDOMINAL RADIOLOGIST WANTED The Department of Medical Imaging at St. Michael’s Hospital (SMH) in Toronto is currently recruiting a full-time, fellowship-trained, academic abdominal radiologist to join our Abdominal Imaging Division. We are a collegial department that seeks clinically excellent radiologists to support our mission of excellent patient care delivered in a positive and constructive work environment. We offer excellent compensation and opportunities for professional and career growth. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2025 but is flexible. St. Michael’s Hospital is a member of the Unity Health Toronto network and is a busy, 600-bed tertiary care and Trauma Centre and one of four principal teaching hospitals of the University of Toronto.  Within the University of Toronto, our department has distinguished itself with a long history of recognized excellence in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate teaching.  We have a strong culture and history of close collaborative clinical and teaching relationships with Gastroenterology, Urology, Nephrology, Colorectal Surgery, Medical Oncology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and the Trauma program.  St. Michael’s Hospital is a busy kidney transplant centre, an American College of Surgeons-accredited Level I trauma centre, and has busy cancer services throughout the Unity Health Network especially in rectal, gastric, prostate, HPB, thoracic and breast cancer. The Abdominal Imaging Division encompasses busy abdominal and pelvic CT, MRI, ultrasound, x-ray and procedural services supporting these important clinical programs. Each year, there are 4 Abdominal Imaging fellows, as well as up to 3  Women’s Imaging clinical fellows at St. Michael’s who rotate through the various Abdominal Imaging rotations. There are more than 10 radiology residents from the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto per year who also rotate through the division. There are 9 ultrasound units, 3 CT scanners, and 4 MRI scanners (two are 3.0 T). The Department is extending its footprint into the 3rd floor of the new Peter Gilgan Tower of the hospital, where a 5th new MRI scanner (3.0T) and a new PET-CT scanner are both currently being installed and anticipated to be operational in the department by end of 2024. Net new additional CT and MRI scanners are also being planned. The Department houses an MRI Research Centre with significant Abdominal Imaging activity, and also houses a Professorship in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence with ancillary funding for projects in support of the Department’s internationally recognized research work in the development and utilization of radiology artificial intelligence. The hospital houses the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, the Keenan Research Centre, and the Data Science & Advanced Analytics program that all provide world-class research and academic opportunities for radiologists to engage in collaborative translational research in Medical Imaging. The successful candidate will be committed to outstanding quality in clinical operations, teaching and research and will hold certification in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent. S/he will be a self-starter and team player, and must have a strong commitment to excellent patient care, continuous quality improvement, research and teaching. The candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate will hold fellowship training in Abdominal/Body imaging, and must be trained in abdominal & pelvic imaging, encompassing US, CT, MRI, x-ray and image-guided procedures. Experience reporting PET/CT studies will be a significant asset. Additional cardiothoracic imaging fellowship training encompassing chest CT and cardiac MRI & CT, may be considered extra assets to provide interdivisional cross-coverage. Our group of 10 Radiologists provide imaging services to a catchment area of approximately 300,000.  We are based out of a 365 bed regional hospital with remote coverage of 2 general hospitals and an acute care center, as well as a privately owned outpatient clinic.  The practice includes all areas of General Radiology including fluoroscopy, US, CT, MRI, IR, nuclear medicine and breast imaging.  Specialty training would be an asset but is not required. Health PEI is seeking a permanent full-time equivalent General Radiologist to join the provincial Department of Diagnostic Imaging. Based out of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, PEI, the physician shall join a group of nine Radiologists providing provincial coverage at two provincial hospital sites, in a fully equipped community practice.
  • The candidate is expected to provide the full scope of Diagnostic Imaging. The candidate must be comfortable with interpretation of General X-ray, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, CT, and MRI. Ability to interpret Nuclear Medicine would be an asset.
  • The candidate is expected to have a general interventional skill set which includes ability to perform basic tissue biopsies in addition to other image-guided procedures such as abscess drains, paracentesis, thoracentesis, etc. Ability to perform lung biopsies would be an asset.
  • All after-hours imaging is currently provided by a teleradiology service. However, the local radiologists provide backup call in the event the service is disrupted. The candidate is therefore expected to participate in the backup call schedule. In the event of interruption of teleradiology services, the candidate would be required to participate in after-hours call coverage.

Full Time Academic Neuroradiologist Wanted

  The Department of Medical Imaging at St. Michael’s Hospital (SMH) in Toronto is currently recruiting a full-time, fellowship trained, academic diagnostic neuroradiologist to join our Neuroradiology Division.  We are an exceptionally collegial group that seeks clinically excellent radiologists to support our mission of excellent patient care delivered in a positive and constructive work environment.  We offer excellent compensation and opportunities for professional and career growth. St. Michael’s Hospital is a member of the Unity Health Toronto network and is a busy, 600-bed tertiary care and Trauma Centre and one of four principal teaching hospitals of the University of Toronto.  Within the University of Toronto, our department has distinguished itself with a long history of recognized excellence in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate teaching.  We have a strong culture and history of close collaborative working and teaching relationships with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and the Trauma program. The Neuroradiology Division encompasses busy CT and MRI services supporting a strong referral base in neurooncology, neurology, neurovascular, spine, skull base, and general neurosurgery as well as community outpatient services. The division also supports a busy multidisciplinary neurointerventional service.  The group is heavily involved in clinical activity, teaching and research.  We participate fully in the University of Toronto academic programs and train medical students, residents and several full-time University of Toronto Neuroradiology fellows each year. Our department currently has 3 multi-detector CT scanners, and 4 MRI scanners (two 1.5T and two 3.0 T) plus a portable ultra-low field 0.064T head MRI scanner, the first clinical implementation of this technology in Canada. A new MRI scanner and a new PET-CT scanner are currently being installed and are anticipated to be operational in the department in 2024. New additional CT and MRI scanners are planned. Recently, significant new resources have been added in support of the Department’s internationally recognized research work through a Research Chair in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence. The hospital houses the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Keenan Research Centre which provide world-class support and opportunities for radiologists to engage in collaborative translational research. The candidate will be a self-starter, a team player comfortable interpreting all types of neuroradiological studies (plain film, CT and MR, lumbar puncture and myelography).  A candidate who has experience with quantitative MRI analysis of neuroimaging biomarkers such as DTI and perfusion imaging, pulse sequence optimization for clinical and research neuroimaging, functional imaging and neurovascular imaging techniques such as high-field vessel wall imaging would be desirable.  Experience and/or formal training in PET-CT would also be an asset. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto and will integrate into multi-disciplinary clinical, education and research programs at St. Michael’s Hospital. The successful candidate should hold certification in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent.  Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a two-year RCPSC accredited fellowship in neuroradiology or equivalent experience. Successful completion of subspecialty exams is desirable. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
