Award

BRC Medal of Excellence

The BRC Medal of Excellence represents the highest honour that the Breast Radiologists of Canada (BRC) may bestow on one of its members. This award is given in recognition of distinguished and extraordinary service to the BRC and to the discipline of breast radiology in Canada.

Such service may include excellence in teaching, research, clinical investigation, or mentorship. Research contributions should demonstrate quality, impact, and consistency, as evidenced by publications in recognized professional journals. Service to the BRC may also include outstanding contributions to the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR), other medical organizations, or government agencies.

The BRC is not obligated to present this award annually. It will only be given when there is a suitable candidate whose record reflects exceptional service and achievement.

Eligibility

The BRC Medal of Excellence nominee must be an individual member in good standing of the CAR continuously over the past five years and a current active BRC member.

Nomination Process

Nominations must be submitted by a BRC member in good standing and include:

  • One letter of support for the nominee, who must be a CAR and BRC member in good standing
  • A statement by the nominator of the major contributions of the nominee
  • A curriculum vitae for the nominee

The call for nominations will be issued in September each year. Completed nominations must be submitted by December 15 to jbourdon@car.ca. An individual member may nominate or sponsor only one nominee each year.

Review and Adjudication

The BRC Medal of Excellence will review and select the recipient by consensus from among the nominations.

If unsuccessful in the first year, the nomination may be reactivated by any BRC member in good standing for consideration for a maximum of two years following the first submission. This can be done by submitting a letter requesting reactivation by December 15th of the subsequent year. This reactivation does not require any new supporting data.

Recognition

The award will be presented at the BRC Business Meeting held in conjunction with the CAR Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in April.
