There is now more Canadian representation among the Fellows of the American College of Radiology (FACR).
The CAR is pleased to congratulate Dr. Michael Patlas, CAR Journal Editor-in-Chief, on being named an ACR Fellow during the ACR’s annual meeting in Washington, DC earlier this month.
“It is a tremendous honour to be inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology (ACR) in the Extraordinary (International) category. I am immensely grateful to the ACR and my ACR chapter, the Canadian Association of Radiologists, for the nomination and the opportunity to engage in multiple academic endeavors to support our profession,” said Dr. Patlas.
The Extraordinary (International) category recognizes ACR members who have 10-11 years of membership and letters of endorsement supporting the candidate’s extraordinary accomplishments and international achievements.
“A special thank you to my first Chair, Dr. Sat Somers, for his suggestion to get involved in organized radiology, and my mentors and nominators, Dr. David Vickar and Dr. Iain Kirkpatrick,” he added. “I am planning to pay it forward and support nominations of deserving colleagues and trainees.”
In addition to Dr. Patlas’ recognition, the CAR as an organization was also celebrated by the ACR. The CAR won the Chapter Recognition Award for Overall Excellence. This is the first time the CAR has won the award for Overall Excellence, having been recognized for Government Relations each year from 2022-2025.
Dr. Patlas believes these awards indicate the ascent of Canadian radiology on the world stage.
“The CAR Chapter Award and my personal recognition are testament to the international standing the CAR, its upwards trajectory, and the numerous contributions of Canadian members of the ACR, including authorship of ACR Appropriateness Criteria, leadership on ACR teaching courses, and service on multiple ACR committees.”
