The most recent increase in the CAR Journal (CARJ) Impact Factor is proof that the dedication of the Editorial Board and volunteers is paying off.
Earlier this month, Clarivate released the Impact Factor ratings, scoring a 4.0 for the CARJ.
The latest Impact Factor continues a steadily increasing pace for the CARJ. In 2025, the Impact Factor was 3.7, a major jump from 2.9 in 2024.
“It is a wonderful feeling to be recognized by the scientific community with the continuous growth of the Impact Factor,” said Dr. Michael Patlas, CARJ Editor-in-Chief. “Our consistently increasing scores and advancement in industry rankings demonstrate that Journal is moving in the right direction.”
2025 Impact Factor
On top of an excellent Impact Factor, the CARJ is ranked in the top quartile of all international radiology journals for the second consecutive year.
“We continue to publish top-notch scientific papers, state-of-the-art reviews and CAR guidelines as all these categories of submissions are popular with our readership as evidenced by number of downloads,” noted Dr. Patlas.
CAR position statements and guidelines, both practice and referral, are major drivers of CARJ readership and article downloads. While only 14% of articles were classified as guidelines or statements, this type of publication accounted for 41% of all downloads. Guideline articles saw an average of 6.62 downloads per day, significantly above the 1.93 downloads per day for non-guideline specific articles.
“First and foremost, the CARJ Impact Factor reflects the academic strength of Canadian radiology,” said Dr. Patlas. “We are seeing continued growth in quality of submissions submitted to the Journal. We attract excellent Canadian and international manuscripts due to the superb reputation of the Journal, the caliber of our Editorial Board, reviewers and staff, and our incredibly quick turnaround time of six days to first decision.”
