Recognizing Excellence from the Affiliate Societies

Excellence in subspecialty radiology was recognized at the CAR 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting with the presentation of the Affiliate Society Awards. These awards highlight the leadership, dedication, and impact of recipients within their fields and the broader radiology community.

Dr. Caroline Reinhold

Career Excellence Award

Dr. Caroline Reinhold is recognized for an outstanding career in abdominal radiology, marked by clinical excellence, research innovation, and educational leadership. Over more than 30 years, she has advanced hepatobiliary, pancreatic, gastrointestinal, and MRI imaging practices in Canada and internationally.

A leader in gynecological MRI, her work in uterine and adnexal disease—including contributions to structured reporting systems such as O-RADS MRI—has strengthened clinical decision-making. Through her role at McGill University, she has also mentored generations of radiologists.

Dr. Elsie Nguyen

Award of Excellence

Dr. Elsie Nguyen is recognized for her significant contributions to cardiothoracic imaging through research, education, and leadership. A nationally respected thoracic radiologist, she has an extensive academic record, including peer-reviewed publications, research funding, and invited presentations.

Her leadership within the Canadian Society of Thoracic Radiology—including work on cardiac imaging and pulmonary embolism guidelines and serving as CSTR President—has been highly impactful. She is also widely respected for mentoring trainees and early-career radiologists.

Dr. Tahani Ahmad

Award of Excellence

Dr. Tahani Ahmad is recognized for her leadership in pediatric radiology, with contributions spanning clinical practice, research, and education across Canada. She has played a key role in national and international guideline development, including imaging in child abuse, and has contributed to multiple CanSPR committees.

Her work with the Royal College on accreditation and Competence by Design has strengthened subspecialty training nationwide. She has also led AI research in neonatal imaging and was named a CAR Rising Star.

Dr. Ferco Berger

Medal of Excellence

Dr. Ferco Berger is recognized as a leader in emergency and trauma radiology, with contributions in clinical practice, research, education, and global collaboration. He has led major emergency radiology divisions and pioneered 24/7 in-house coverage models to improve care delivery.

His work in trauma imaging guidelines, mass casualty preparedness, and imaging systems has influenced practice internationally. He has also advanced training and education through residency, fellowship, and global teaching initiatives.

Dr. Bruce Forster

Career Excellence Award

Dr. Bruce Forster is recognized as a leading figure in musculoskeletal radiology, with a career defined by innovation, scholarship, and leadership. An early pioneer in advanced MRI techniques, he has helped elevate MSK imaging practice nationally.

His contributions include extensive publications, educational leadership, and mentorship through UBC’s radiology programs. His work with CAR, the Royal College, and international sporting events has strengthened education and sports imaging globally.
