New and innovative technologies in the field of radiology, artificial intelligence in particular, highlighted the educational content of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2026, held in Vienna, Austria from March 4-8.
Dr. Alison Harris attended the event for the first time as CAR President alongside CEO Nick Neuheimer and several other CAR members. The theme Rays of Knowledge explored innovation and learning at the heart of radiology, aligning with many of the CAR’s technology priorities regarding AI and the process of adopting new technologies in radiology.

The CAR was well represented in the ECR 2026 scientific program. Dr. Kate Hanneman participated in several panel discussions on AI and sustainability. Some of her presentations included:
- Data storage: to store or not to store
- The path to a sustainable radiology department
- Radiology preparedness for extreme environmental events
Dr. Tanya Chawla spoke about reporting systems in her presentation titled US ovarian-adnexal reporting and data systems (O-RADS). Contributions like these highlight the impact of Canadian radiology on the global stage.
“Dr. Alison Harris represented the CAR at a busy ECR2026 in Vienna,” said CAR CEO Nick Neuheimer on LinkedIn. “The congress highlighted the latest academic science in radiology as well as the integration of new technologies, especially AI. The CAR met with radiology societies from around the world and old friends like the Royal College of Radiology from the UK.”
The CAR is grateful for the participation of our members in ECR 2026 and for their extraordinary contributions to radiology internationally.
