The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is a consortium of Canadian universities and research institutions that helps expand access to scholarly content and supports open access publishing.
Through Sage’s agreement with CRKN, eligible corresponding authors affiliated with participating Canadian institutions will have the opportunity to publish open access in Sage journals, including the Canadian Association of Radiologists Journal, at no cost.
This agreement is designed to make research more widely available while reducing financial barriers for authors.
The CRKN-Sage agreement applies to corresponding authors whose institutions participate in the agreement, and eligibility is determined based on the corresponding author’s affiliation.

How to Publish Open Access Under the CRKN Agreement
- Confirm whether the corresponding author is affiliated with an eligible Canadian university or institution covered by the CRKN agreement.
- When submitting your manuscript, make sure the corresponding author’s institutional affiliation is entered accurately in the submission system.
- Please note that eligibility is based on the affiliation of the corresponding author only. If the corresponding author’s institution is not eligible under CRKN, the submission will not qualify for no-cost open access under the agreement.
- Before acceptance, if you believe there is an error in the affiliation of the corresponding author, please reach out to the carj@car.ca.
- If the corresponding author’s affiliation is covered by CRKN and the article is accepted, Sage’s Open Access team will automatically contact the authors after acceptance to arrange open access publication.
- No separate request is needed at submission for eligible articles in participating Sage journals, including the Canadian Association of Radiologists Journal.
- If you believe your accepted submission should be covered under the CRKN, and Sage does not automatically reach out regarding OA or there is some other error, please reach out to openaccess@sagepub.com.
