The first lecture of the innovative new National Grand Rounds series, developed by the Canadian Heads of Academic Radiology (CHAR), will be led by thoracic radiology expert Dr. Daria Manos (Dalhousie University) on Wednesday, September 2^nd, 2026.

The National Grand Rounds series will consist of monthly lectures featuring a different specialty topic presented by a selection of experts. This collaborative project  draws on the expertise and guidance of radiology departments from 16 universities across the country. The overall program aims to enhance collaboration, educational excellence, and national identity.

Dr. Manos’ presentation, 20 Years, 20 Pearls: Lessons Learned in the Diagnosis of Lung Cancer, will offer insights into lung cancer imaging based on her decades of experience. She will review recent advances in lung cancer imaging and will focus on CT findings most likely to be misdiagnosed. Dr. Manos will also discuss the role of the radiologist beyond that of a medical expert and the challenges they must navigate.

Dr. Manos’ presentation will be followed by Queen’s University Assistant Professor Dr. Umer Nasir on  Monday, October 7^th, 2026. His presentation is centred on mass casualty events from the perspectives of radiology and emergency medicine, emphasizing how triage, standards of care, and imaging priorities change during a surge. Dr. Nasir will also cover practical strategies for preparedness such as workflow adaptation, rapid reporting, surge capacity, and integration with hospital incident command.
