Two radiologists are finishing up their time as Editors-in-Training (EIT) of the CAR Journal (CARJ). Dr. Hannah Hughes and Dr. Karl Narvacan have both spent the past year working under the leadership of other CAR members as part of the EIT program.
Dr. Hughes was selected as part of the first ever Editor-in-Training partnership with the Faculty of Radiologists in Ireland. She says her experience in this partnership has been very rewarding.
“The mentorship I have received, as well as my own hands-on involvement has provided me with invaluable insights into the editorial process, while fostering my own interests in research and academic radiology.”
Dr. Narvacan is a radiology resident at the University of Toronto and was selected as Editor-in-Training from the Canadian applications. Looking to how this experience will help him in the future, he said “I hope to encourage other resident colleagues to learn more about CARJ and consider publishing their own work with the journal.” He worked closely with Editor-in-Chief Dr. Michael Patlas and Dr. Bruce Forster.
“One of my favourite experiences has been collaborating with the editorial team and my peer-review mentor, Dr. Birgit Ertl-Wagner, on manuscript reviews,” said Dr. Hughes. “I feel privileged to have contributed to maintaining the integrity of the journal through critical analysis of submitted research and providing constructive feedback to authors. Meeting the CARJ editorial team at CAR 2024 was also a highlight for me.”
For those considering getting involved with the CARJ, the EIT program puts out a call for applications every year. Dr. Hughes highly encourages interested applicants to apply.
“It offers the opportunity to work with an experienced editorial team, to gain unique perspectives on the intricacies of academic publishing, and to witness how important teamwork, communication, and multi-disciplinary collaboration are in the scientific editorial and publication process.”
Thank you to Dr. Hughes and Dr. Narvacan for your outstanding efforts.
