Coming Together to Advance Radiology: CAR 2026 Was a Great Success

Experts across many areas of radiology put forth their research and innovative ideas at CAR 2026, from April 16-19 in Montréal and set a record number of attendees.

CAR 2026 took place at Le Westin Montréal, home to our Annual Scientific Meeting over the last four years. The 2026 theme was Seeing What Matters: Driving Canadian Radiology Forward and featured educational content that highlighted advancements in the field of radiology.

Premiere Speakers and Content

Thanks to the dedication of the Annual Scientific Meeting Planning Committee, and its new Chair Dr. Chris Fung, the agenda for CAR 2026 offered engaging educational sessions for attendees in a broad range of specialties and featured highly respected speakers with specialized expertise. In between the educational tracks, there were five internationally renowned Plenary Session speakers.

Unrestricted grants from Eisai and Bayer enabled delegates to attend an accredited symposium on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. Dr. Manish Joshi was the featured speaker of Friday’s symposium The Critical Role of Imaging in Alzheimer’s and ARIA Diagnosis, where he covered recent evidence on amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA), expert guidance, and resources to support implementations of new treatments in Canadian practices. Dr. Kate Hanneman led the symposium on Saturday titled The Changing Landscape of MRI Contrast. She reviewed the current state of MRI contrast agents like high-relaxivity gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) and how newer agents can achieve equivalent or improved diagnostic performance at lower administered doses, thereby lessening gadolinium exposure, shortening scan times, and reducing environmental impact.

As always, the educational tracks included the Oral Abstract Competition Presentations and, for the second consecutive year, presenters had the opportunity to take part in the Short Oral Presentations, giving brief summaries of their presentations during breaks.

Networking and Making Connections

The weekend  officially kicked off with the Welcome Reception on Thursday, April 16, generously supported by Hologic. The new Resident and Fellow Section (RFS) Chair, Dr. Chloe DesRoche, was introduced at the Trainee and Early Career Reception alongside outgoing Chair, Dr. Rui Ning Gong. Attendees had the chance to meet with each other and industry partners during Vendor Cocktail, as well as get a complimentary headshot taken.

For those eager to learn and get to know the Affiliate Societies, each affiliate group held their own Business Meeting and had a featured space at the Vendor Cocktail for attendees to meet leadership learn about their latest work. This included the Annual Scientific Meeting debut of the Breast Radiologists of Canada (BRC), the CAR’s newest Affiliate Society.

Naming a New ASM Ambassador

After years of representing the CAR as ASM Ambassador, Dr. Emil Lee ceremoniously passed the Ambassador sash and its duties to Dr. Kate Hanneman.

We thank Dr. Lee for his consistent enthusiasm for the event and willingness to engage with all attendees.

We look forward to CAR 2027 having Dr. Hanneman as the new Ambassador.
