The CAR Journal (CARJ) reached a new milestone this year, capping off a very successful 2025. In total, the CARJ received a record of 363 submissions.
The total is emblematic of a continued upward trajectory in terms of submissions for the CARJ, having received 309 in 2024 – a 15% increase. The CARJ is receiving more geographically diverse submissions than ever before, reflecting both a broader national footprint and a steadily increasing level of international engagement.
Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Michael Patlas, is encouraged to see the growing interest in publishing in the CARJ from Canadian and international radiology communities and says the new record is reflective of the work of the CARJ editorial team.
“The number of submissions continues to increase due to high quality of work published by the Journal, specialty leading metrics including turnaround time, and the stellar work of the editorial and staff teams.”
Dr. Patlas says the uptick in submissions is also related to the increase in Impact Factor earlier this year. The CARJ saw the score rise to 3.7 in 2025, up from 2.9 in 2024. The Journal ranked 37th out of 212 international journals in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Medical Imaging category in 2025, a much higher placement than in 2024 when the Journal was ranked 60th out of 204. It is the first time in the CARJ’s 80+ year history that the publication has ranked in the top 25% in the category.
On top of Journal’s expanding international reach, the core publication record continues to showcase work produced within Canadian institutions, underscoring the strength, innovation, and leadership of Canadian radiology research. The CARJ welcomes submissions from radiologists across the country, and it is encouraging to see a growing number of Canadian clinicians, researchers, and trainees choosing the CARJ as the home for their scholarship. It is a true affirmation of the excellence and breadth of radiology scholarship happening across Canada, spanning basic imaging science, clinical research, health systems, and education.
The Journal is continually looking to expand its roster of peer reviewers and warmly encourages radiologists from all subspecialties and regions across Canada to join the reviewer community. Dr. Patlas and the entire editorial team look forward to continuing to highlight the contributions of the Canadian radiology community as the Journal grows, and deeply appreciate the support and engagement of authors, reviewers, and readers.
Congratulations on this major accomplishment!
