Showcase Your Latest Research at the CAR 2026 Abstract Competition

The CAR Annual Scientific Meeting offers an excellent opportunity to share your insights with Canada’s leading radiologists and groups of your peers by submitting your work to the Scientific and Educational Abstract Competition.

The competition is a feature event for attendees and often a career-defining experience for participants.

Davy Vanderweyen was the lead author of the winning project in the Radiologist-in-Training Research Project category.

“It was very rewarding transforming my work into something engaging to my colleagues,” he said. “The best part was seeing people curious and asking meaningful questions. The act of presenting is a great exercise to test and improve your grasp on your project and its implications.”

Nicholas Dietrich authored a project that placed 3rd in the Scientific Research Project category.

“I’d like to thank the CAR and the judges at the Annual Scientific Meeting for the opportunity to showcase my research,” he said. “I hope, through my work, we can continue to support guideline-based care and provide a scalable approach to model augmentation that evolves with best practice in medical imaging.”

Categories

Educational Exhibits

Submissions in this category are informative exhibits designed to review known topics. They are not new hypothesis-driven endeavors. The presentation is to provide a synthesis of facts, relate them in new ways, or extract common threads from diverse data. Presentations should aim to be memorable, potentially influencing clinical practice, and to be as simple and direct as the selected topic permits.

Quality Improvement Project

Submissions in this category are to describe a quality improvement project that has taken place in an institution. The common aim is to ensure that best practice is being followed so that the highest quality of patient care is delivered.

Radiologist-in-Training Research Project

Trainees Only

Submissions are to describe a hypothesis-driven research project with defined outcomes and a reasonable sample size. Multiple research projects may be submitted; however, only one may be presented by a given trainee. Each project must be mentored by a staff radiologist.

Scientific Research Project

Submissions are to describe a hypothesis-driven research project with defined outcomes and a reasonable sample size.

If you are looking to refine your presentation skills, the Short Oral Abstract Presentations opportunity offers a 3-minute window to run through the main points of your research. All abstracts will also be displayed as Electronic Posters on interactive digital screens throughout the venue and through the event app.

Vanderweyen says he felt supported by the CAR throughout the submission process, which gave his work more meaning and encouraged him to work harder. When putting together your own abstract, Vanderweyen suggests not letting perfection hold you back.

“Don’t wait until it’s ‘perfect’ to start your work. Focus on why you’re doing it and on what the real-world gain is. Make the message straight forward and understandable to non-experts as well.”
