Thank you!
Thank you to all delegates who attended this year’s Annual Scientific Meeting
The 2018 CAR Annual Scientific Meeting broke records in overall attendance with more than 550 delegates. CAR 2018 was Canada’s first specialty conference whose theme was centered around Artificial Intelligence (AI). The meeting addressed various topics that are central to the radiology profession, such as emerging technologies, their application into current workflows, and how CAR members can harness the power of AI to improve patient outcomes. With over 15 hours of valuable CPD, attendees were able to deepen their learning of radiology practice.
The CAR is looking forward to welcoming delegates to the beautiful city of Montreal again next year from April 11-14, 2019 at Le Centre Sheraton Montréal.

Join us in Montreal for CAR 2018, Artificial Intelligence: Present and Future. The meeting is the premier Canadian radiology event of the year, renowned for its scientific and educational content, and for the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across Canada.
Featuring an impressive roster of national and international speakers, the 2018 program covers scientific and educational material that is of value for radiologists and trainees.
Early bird deadline: March 9, 2018
Needs Assessment
In seeking to provide patients with optimal healthcare experiences and outcomes, radiologists seek to deliver proficient services in a timely manner and with the most appropriate and advanced equipment and tools. CAR 2018 will explore the development of technologies like deep learning and artificial intelligence in radiology, how to integrate them thoughtfully, and how to use imaging to help guide therapeutic decision making to help improve clinical outcomes.
Target Audience
This conference is designed for all general and subspecialty radiologists as well as radiology residents whose work involves performing or interpreting images, determining appropriateness and using advanced equipment and tools to help guide therapeutic decision-making and help improve clinical outcomes.
Learning Objectives
After attending this conference, attendees will be able to:
- Discuss the importance of radiologists maintaining an active role on clinical teams.
CanMEDS roles: Collaborator, Communicator, Health Advocate, Leader, Professional - Discuss the recent changes that have occurred in imaging as a result of the implementation of artificial intelligence, deep learning, and machine learning in imaging workflows.
CanMEDS roles: Health Advocate, Leader, Professional - Discuss the opportunities of big data and artificial intelligence to improve on the diagnostic performance and predictive value of imaging.
CanMEDS Roles: Communicator, Health Advocate, Scholar - Define the role and utilization of advanced technology in clinical imaging.
CanMEDS Roles: Communicator, Leader, Medical Expert - Discuss how imaging can help inform therapeutic decision making that help improve outcomes.
CanMEDS Roles: Health Advocate, Leader - Identify strategies to engage in academic activities and contribute to the academic life of a Radiology department.
CanMEDS role: Professional, Leader, Scholar

Image Interpretation Session – with a competitive edge
This year we are looking especially forward to a session hosted by Dr. Bruce Forster, which will see two teams of radiologists competing to read and interpret unknown cases across a variety of body systems. The panel will be an opportunity to observe colleagues and peers as they analyze images and develop diagnoses, then use those diagnoses to guide patient care.
Register for the Saturday April 28th simulation workshop - Space is limited and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Short high-impact didactic sessions will be followed by hands-on review of complete image files. Participants will be able to simulate real case-reporting with the benefit of individualized instructor feedback. The workshop will cover PIRADSv2 technique with examples of good and poor-quality images, PIRADSv2 interpretation of cases with an official template, and the opportunity to review cases individually. The workshop will close with an interactive group session with using an audience response system to examine additional cases
Needs Assessment
Based on membership feedback, this year’s hands-on, interactive workshop will be dedicated to MRI of the prostate.
Target Audience
This workshop is designed for practicing radiologists and will focus on practical problem-solving for the general radiologist. The workshop is geared for beginners or those who have less experience in prostate MRI.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this simulation workshop, the participants will be able to:
- Perform and interpret prostate MRI in accordance to PIRADSv2;
- Create a standardized template report; and,
- Recognize pitfalls and mimics in interpreting multi-parametric prostate MRI.
Getting the most of CAR 2018 for radiology trainees
From April 26-29, 2018 residents will have the opportunity to network, socialize and exchange ideas about their work with leading radiologists from North America during the CAR 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting at Le Centre Sheraton in Montreal.
More than 500 delegates will be in attendance to explore topics that demonstrate how imaging is harnessing the power of technologies such as deep learning and artificial intelligence.
The CAR 2018 theme, Artificial Intelligence in Radiology-Present and Future will inspire residents to grow their knowledge base and professional network.
For residents only —what not to miss
Reduced Fees – The early bird registration rate is valid until March 9 and is only $200 for residents. Check with your program to see if they will be paying for your attendance, or register today!
Dedicated program track for trainees – back by popular demand, CAR 2018 will feature dedicated educational content for residents and fellows on Saturday, April 28.
Junior and Senior Resident Hot-Seat Sessions – Highly-rated and useful preparation! An afternoon of small group sessions, requiring on-the-spot interpretations and followed by practical feedback from experts.
